Far from the highly publicized media war rages the secret war. Fought in neutral Laos and Cambodia, these clandestine "black" missions are carried out by the men of the Special Forces: an elite action group specializing in guerrilla warfare tactics.

President Johnson orders a bombing halt, and peace talks begin in Paris---but the NVA uses the opportunity to turn up the heat for a major push against American camps along the Laos---Cambodia border. Special Forces Captain Mike Reese and the men of A-410 are reorganized as a Hatchet Force team and moved to Dak Sang to rebuild a border camp aimed at interdicting NVA supply routes.

Caught in the political cross fire of the army brass and CIA superspooks, Reese and company are determined to do what the do best hunt down the enemy and strike the killing blow first.
