Description for BLENDERS AND BULLETS by Scott D McDonald:
A CHARACTER-DRIVEN ACTION ADVENTURE WITH LOTS OF FLYING AT TREETOP LEVEL
Collie, a world-weary mercenary pilot, has grown tired of working for other people. Now he's trying to pile up enough money to semi-retire in some third world beach town. He has bought some worn out cargo planes and hired young working-class pilots Brian and Ray to smuggle consumer electronics over the border into Mexico. This quasi-legal activity is more or less tolerated north of the border, as no US laws are broken. South of the Rio Grande is a different story. Some flights go smoothly, some of them get complicated, and a few flights end in crashes or gunfire.
Ray spends a few months in a Federal Prison in Mexico and it is not what he expected. By the time he gets home, things at SkyDog have changed. Collie has decided to settle down with an old friend from his Indochina days, and she has convinced him to go straight and attempt to turn his hardscrabble outfit into a legitimate aviation business.
Blenders and Bullets is more than just a collection of exciting flying stories, it is funny and even heartwarming. Readers who enjoy colorful characters dealing with danger and moral challenges may find this pilot procedural book reminiscent of Elmore Leonard and John D. MacDonald.
This is #1 in Pistons And Propellers.
