Is the almost universal term for cardiac arrest--the gravest of all hospital emergency situations.

"Code five!" Is the cry which introduces Dr. Jud Tyler to St. Luke's Hospital--and the words might stand for the hospital itself. Overcrowded, understaffed, St. Luke's is a veritable dumping ground for all the city's charity cases--a place where medical ethics are lost or forgotten, where a rich woman's sexual hunger can raise havoc, and politics counts for more than the patient's lifes.
