Description for NORMAN ROCKWELL'S FOUR SEASONS by George Mendoza:

Norman Rockwell was born in New York City in 1894. His artistic talents became evident at an early age, and when he was sixteen he enrolled in the Art Students League. Thereafter, for over sixty years, he told the story of ordinary people in everyday situations, endearing himself to millions. Probably best know for his "Saturday Evening Post" covers---he created well over 300, up until 1963---he also illustrated covers for "Look", "McCall's", and other magazines. In addition, he produced cards, calendars, advertisements, and even murals.

The author of three books---NORMAN ROCKWELL, ILLUSTRATOR, 1946; NORMAL ROCKWELL: MY ADVENTURES AS AN ILLUSTRATOR, 1959; and THE NORMAN ROCKWELL ALBUM, 1961----he collaborated with George Mendoza on four others during the mid-70s.

Norman Rockwell died in his hometown of Stockbridge, Massachusetts, on November 8, 1978, at the age of 84. The Normal Rockwell Museum there houses the largest permanent collection of his works in this country; and he is also represented in The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
