William C Speidel is a native son of Seattle who loves his city as much for her lusty, checkered past as for her dynamic present. He keeps track of her present as publisher of the "Seattle Guide", a full-color weekly entertainment publication about what's going on in Seattle. He disinters her past virtually daily via his Underground Tours, conducted in the Pioneer Square area where the city had its birthplace. Tour-goers hear an entertaining commentary on early Seattle history as tour guides lead them above and below ground to see the forgotten first floor areas that were built over when the city re-graded after the Seattle Fire of 1889. Mr. Speidel also is very active in current restoration efforts designed to preserve this historic but run-down area. His office is located there in an old, formerly-neglected building which has been restored for modern use while retaining its charming atmosphere of the past.
