Description for STILL LIFE IS EXCITING by Nan Greacen, N.A.:

The popular American painter of portraits and still life, Nan Greacen (Mrs. Rene Faure) was born in Giverny, France, where her father was one of the American group studying Impressionist technique. She graduated from the Brearley School in New York City, then studied drawing and painting at the Grand Central School of Art. Miss Greacen later taught at the Grand Central School before moving to Scarsdale in Westchester County where since 1947 she has painted and taught private classes in her Harwood Building Studio.

It may be that Miss Greacen's father, a well-known American impressionist, had some influence on her approach to art but she early evolved her own color sense and style and worked out an exciting technique which shows to particular advantage in her treatment of copper, brass and other textures. Her outstanding personal characteristics are charm and distinction, and she creates in her paintings, through her sure handling and fresh color, the same quality.

Miss Greacen's achievements in the Art world are impressive. Her awards in large group exhibitions are too numerous to mention. She is a National Academician, a former vice president of the National Association of Woman Artists. A member of the Allied Artists of America, the Audubon Artists, American Artists Professional League and locally, The Hudson Valley Art Association and the Scarsdale Art Association. Miss Greacen is actively associated with the Grand Central Art Galleries in New York, where in April of 1967 she had her most recent on-man show.

Thereis an old saying "Those who can, do! Those who can't teach!" Happily Nan Greacen makes utter nonsense of that statement, she has been a successful painter since 1936 as her biographical record in Who's Who attests, and she has been a successful teacher for the same number of years, as hundreds of her students and former students will gladly aver.
