SOMEONE WAS IN THE APARTMENT---

For a desperate moment, she prayed it was Hank.

Then she heard the footsteps, methodical and direct---the footsteps of the man who had followed her in the dark street.  He came straight for the kitchen, as if he knew she was cowering there.

She screamed.  The sound ripped from her throat in a frenzy of terror, shattering the night's silence.  But she knew it wouldn't stop him.
