And why was he in such a hurry? If Kitty only knew!

Her mother was moving hysterically through the crowd. Clover the Clown was weeping real tears. Policemen in disguise were desperately hunting for the girl with the red hair and the man who had taken her away. And Lucky Guy Carraway, the Lord Mayor himself, was facing the bitter knowledge that today his luck was about to run out. Kitty could not know what "Da" had in store for the parade--or that explosives were packed into her lunch box. Or that the lives of everyone around her were at the mercy of a madman...
