Description for THREE-LEGGED HORSE by Ann Hood:
In 1969, while Abby Nash was playing her violin under the arch in Washington Square Park, Zach Plummer stepped up to her and said, "I want to marry you." Her life then began a course it was to follow for the next twenty years. At first, Abby and Zach lived together in a loft in SoHo; she played in subway stations for spare change, he searched New York streets for found objects to make collages. Even after they married and Abby joined a folk band, Three-Legged Horse, their unconventional life-style still worked for her.
By the 1980s, Abby is living in Vermont and raising their twelve-year-old daughter alone, making a living by playing smoky, boozy college-town bars with Three-Legged Horse. Zach, living on the West Coast with another woman, breezes back into her life every summer for a few months of travel together as a family. When Three-Legged Horse decides to split up, Abby starts to question her obsessive ties to Zach and the old values that once made everything seem right.
