"...I glanced up into my rearview mirror and saw a couple of guys in a car just behind us. Something didn't look quite right...

"I shouted, 'Something's up!' and stepped on the gas. It's a good thing, too---one of the guys on our tail stuck a chrome pistol out his window and started firing.

"now things were happening so fast there wasn't time to think. We were barreling along at 115 miles per hour, sometimes on the wrong side of the street, sometimes on the sidewalk.

"The gunmen shot my rear tire. I went into a spin and slammed into a parked Rambler. I was knocked half senseless. Out of the corner of my eye I saw the two hit men walk toward me.

"Then one of the thugs yanked up mar door open and stuck a gun in my face. 'Oh, God,' I thought, 'What a cheap way to die...'"

From scrappy immigrant boy to fearless under-world criminal, Nick the Greek terrorized the tows and cities he roamed. As a hit man, thief, and drug addict, he was reckless. It was as if life---his own or anyone else's ---had no value whatsoever.
